Churchill (Co Donegal). Lough Beagh situated in the heart of the Glenveagh National Park; 4m long by ½m wide; salmon, sea trout and brown trout. Best known for quality of sea trout fishing in August and Sept. Boat fishing only; 2 boats for hire. Anglers are requested to respect the bird life on this lake, as there are some rare and interesting species residing. Season 15 July-30 Sept.
Buncrana (Co Donegal). Salmon and sea trout. Buncrana AA issues permits. For first week £25 and for each subsequent week £10. Licences from Bertie O'Neill's Fishing Tackle Shop, Bridgend, tel: 077 68157; Seamus Gill, tel: 077 61064. Other waters: Mill River; brown trout to ½lb numerous; free. Inch Lake (6m): good sea trout; free. Dunree River (6m) free; brown trout, occasional salmon and sea trout. Clonmany River (5m); salmon sea trout and brown trout fishing; fair sport in good water; best June onwards.
EANY and ESKE. Eany is a spate river which flows for 10m SW from Blue Stack Mountains and enters sea in Inver Bay close to Inver village. Good run of salmon and sea trout and has resident population of small brown trout. The Eany has undergone extensive development in 1992/3 and is now in the ownership of the Regional Fisheries Board. Salmon runs in 1993 were excellent. Salmon 20 April-30 Sept. Trout 20 April-9 Oct. Eske River drains Lough Eske (900 acres) then runs SW for about 5m to join sea at Donegal Bay. The system gets a good run of salmon and a fair run of sea trout; and has a resident stock of brown trout and char. Salmon 1 March-30 Sept. Trout 1 March-30 Sept.
Doochary (Co Donegal). Bridge here marks end of tidal water; several trout lakes in vicinity. Salmon, sea trout. Best season: Spring salmon, Feb-May; grilse and sea trout, end of June to Sept. Fishing belongs to riparian owners, leave obtainable. Salmon and sea trout run into Lough Barra in large numbers and into tributaries.
Donegal Bay (Co Donegal). There are more than twenty good shore fishing points around bay, from Darbys Hole in south through Erne Estuary (flounder), Donegal Quays (float fishing for mullet with ground bait), spinning from St John's Point, Killybegs Harbour (mackerel, etc from East Pier), beach fishing at Nun's Cove for flatfish, mackerel from Muckross Pier and Head, Teelin Pier (specimen conger, mackerel, flatfish) and White Strand (flatfish from beach plus mackerel). Shark fishing for blue shark Jul-Sept.
