River NoreRiver Nore July 2003 Report

The Southern Regional Fisheries Board reports fish being caught throughout the entire system particularly at Brownsbarn, Thomastown, Bennettsbridge, Maddockstown(d/s of Kilkenny City) and at Rock near Freshford. Many of the fish caught were around the 10 to 12 lb mark with a couple up to 15 lb. At present the water levels are higher than normal summer flow, thus enabling the fish to move upstream. At Inistioge on the tidal stretch, anglers reported that a couple of fish are being caught each day. At present the water is coloured from Kilkenny City down to near Inistoge as a result of flood relief works recommencing on the Nore in the City. This work is being monitored daily by the Fisheries Development Service of the Southern Regional Fisheries Board with assistance being given by the Central Fisheries Board.
