Lough Ree - Wednesday, 1 March 2000
There has been an exceptional turn around on Lough Ree regarding fly fishing in recent weeks with reports from many anglers that wet fly fishing proved very successful. As all local anglers know Lough Ree does not have a history of being a wet fly fishing lake but this appears to have changed now and anglers believe that the Zebra Mussels is responsible.
The Zebra Mussels has improved water clarity from two feet six years ago to over ten feet today and anglers believe that this enables the trout to see the fly hatches more readily. We received some catch details from local anglers. Boxer Moran had 3 trout for 9 lbs, fishing Browns Green. Steve Turner had 4 fish for 7.75 lbs. The Peter and Bibio were mentioned as working well.
