Lough Mask - Wednesday, 23 May 2007

WRFB Report 22 May 2007:

There were localized hatches of mayfly, with good hatches of olives in many bays, and fair hatches of sedges seen over the last week. 189 anglers landed 283 trout in 336 rod-days, with strong cool winds making for difficult fishing at times. Wetfly, dry fly and dapping all accounted for fish, with mayfly, olive, and sedge patterns all successful. Fishing was described as patchy, with excellent sport at times and slow elsewhere.
The European Cup wetfly competition was held by the Tourmakeady Anglers over the weekend, with 152 anglers landing 185 trout in 304 rod-days. First prize went to Stephen Greaney from Galway, with 8 trout for 10lbs 13oz. Irish international angler Madeleine Kelly was 2nd, with 5 trout for 8lbs 3oz, third was Stanley McCart from Enniskillen, and fourth was Harold O’Toole from Galway. The heaviest fish was caught by Athony Matthews from Dundalk.
Eleswhere, Ted Reid and Tom Killoran from Donegal had 18 trout for 21lbs in 5 days to wet and dry fly. David McCann and a friend from Dublin had 13 trout for 15lbs in 3 days fishing wetfly.
