Lough Mask - Tuesday, 15 May 2007

WRFB Report, 15 May 2007 :

Unsettled weather over the last week made for good hatches and fishing at times, but the northerly winds over the weekend slowed things down a bit. Olive, sedge and mayfly hatches were seen, and 38 anglers caught 126 trout in 79 rod-days. Wet and dry flies both accounted for fish, with mayflies and olives most successful.
Sean Maloney from Ballinrobe reported the best days fishing in a long time with 9 trout, including fish of 4.25, 3, 2.75 and 2lbs with 5 other fish over 1lb; he returned 6 of his catch. Rod Tye and party had 22 fish for 2 days on Saturday and Sunday, with all fish returned alive. A Northern group of 11 rods from Hall’s angling centre had 34 fish all of good size and quality for 2 days. 3 French anglers had 6 fish on Saturday averaging 1.5lbs, and Paul Loscher’s party had 10 fish, best 2.25lbs. Ricky Fabozzi from Sligo also had 8 fish for 9lbs approx.
If the weather settles a bit the mayfly hatch should improve greatly, and with visitors flocking to the lake, fishing prospects look great over the next weeks.
