Galway Weir Latest Report
Saturday, 31 May 2008
Grilse are just beginning to run in small numbers in Galway at the moment, and 17 fish were landed for the week, with one 10lbs springer among them. Terry McDermott had a bumper day on Wednesday the 4th, with fish between 4 and 10lbs landed on fly, including 3 released alive. Jean le Moal from France had 2 grilse of 5 and 6lbs on spinner, while Vincent Foley had a nice 7lbs fish on fly. Noted musician Enda Scahill landed his first Galway Weir fish, a nice 5lbs grilse caught on shrimp, and lost another. Father and son John and Simon White from England fished over a couple of days and landed 3 fish each between 4 and 8.5lbs to fly and shrimp, and Gerard Kelly landed a nice 7-pounder on spinner. With water levels perfect and grilse showing already, the next few weeks are expected to provide excellent fishing.
